Thirteen parks across the District of West Vancouver are set to receive long-term legal protection under a new park dedication bylaw being considered by District Council.
The proposed Park Dedication Bylaw would formally designate the selected parks as protected parkland. If passed by a two-thirds majority of the Council, the bylaw would reserve the properties for public use in perpetuity, making future removal of the park designation legally difficult. Park dedication bylaws are the District’s primary tool for safeguarding green spaces.
While many of West Vancouver’s parks are already protected—most recently Upper Lands Park in 2024—some remain without formal designation. The proposed bylaw is part of an effort to close that gap.
The 13 parks slated for dedication include:

Brissenden Waterfront Park – 1448 Argyle Ave.

Burley Drive Park – Burley Dr. & Mathers Ave.

Cross Creek Park – Cross Creek Rd. & Chartwell Dr.

Douglas Street Court Park – Douglas St. near Royal Ave.

Dundarave Park (portions) – Lower Bellevue Ave. & 25th St.

Klootchman Park – Off Howe Sound Lane

Larson Bay Park – Foot of Gleneagles Dr.

Nelson Canyon Park (portions) – Near Westport Rd. & Upper Levels Hwy

Rabbit Lane Park – Off Rabbit Lane

The initiative follows recommendations from the 2012 Parks Master Plan, which first identified that many parks lacked formal dedication. That process also revealed strong community support for extending legal protections to all District parks.
District staff are also preparing to dedicate approximately 20 additional parks in the coming months. Those sites were not included in the current bylaw due to administrative complexities such as road title removals or boundary clarifications.
The proposed bylaw will be presented to Council for approval in the coming weeks.
