A West Vancouver councillor experienced first hand how the local police is working to keep citizens safe. Nora Gambioli was all praise for West Vancouver police at a recent council meeting as she narrated a personal experience that strengthened her faith in the local police’s ability to keep the community safe.
A few weeks ago Gambioli rode a bike to her friend’s house on Inglewood Ave and parked the bike outside her house. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and Gambioli was surprised to see two West Vancouver police officers standing at the door.
“We were a little bit surprised and her thought was, ‘Oh dear, what have my kids done’, but no in fact they had arrived because they said there is a bicycle parked outside your house and it looks suspicious,” she said.
The police officers were driving by when they noticed a bike parked outside a house. Perhaps it was the way it was parked but it did arouse enough suspicion that the officers decided to stop and investigate. “The suspicion was that my bike belonged to someone who was robbing the house and who was going to take small items and ride away. I assured them that I wasn’t doing that,” Gambioli said, smiling.
The cops left but not before Gambioli told them she would share the story with the Mayor and the public.
“It was very interesting that they were on top of things, and it made both of us feel extra safe in West Vancouver. We have pretty high quality of service so that is my shout-out to the police, ‘Well done for the excellent conduct’, and I told them I would tell this to the mayor and the public and that is what I have done,” she said.
