The District of North Vancouver has announced that significant watermain replacement work has started on Capilano Road from July 2. The project spans from Fullerton Avenue to Highway 1 and is expected to last approximately six weeks, with construction taking place during daytime hours.
Residents and commuters should anticipate traffic disruptions throughout the project, including lane closures and shifts. Although traffic flow in both directions on Capilano Road will be maintained, access to Garden Avenue may be occasionally restricted, says DNV.
Drivers are urged to heed detour signs and follow the traffic flaggers’ instructions. The District advises that people allow extra travel time to accommodate any delays caused by the construction.
Meanwhile, the Department of National Defence (DND)’s ongoing clearance of unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) at the former Blair Rifle Range has been extended until July 12, 2024. After a brief pause over the summer, DND’s UXO contractor will return in September 2024 to continue UXO removal work.
Located in the Northlands Area, the former Blair Rifle Range was used by the Canadian Armed Forces for military training from the 1930s to the 1960s. Read more at this link to know more about trail closures and what to do if you see something that looks like it might be a UXO.
