A Tsunami warning has been issued for parts of Coastal BC following a volcanic eruption near the Tonga Islands on January 14.
The advisory applied for Zone A, which covers the North Coast including Haida Gwaii. Zone B is Central and Northeast Vancouver Island Coasts, which include Kitimat, Bella Coola and Port Hardy.
Zone C is the outer West Coast of Vancouver Island from Cape Scott to Port Renfrew, and Zone D which includes the Juan de Fuca Strait from Jordan River to Greater Victoria, and included the Saanich Peninsula
People in coastal areas that are at risk are advised to stay away from the shoreline and heed instructions from local authorities.
“As waves begin to reach the BC coast, expect a prolonged event with pulses continuing throughout the day. Stay out of coastal waters & away from beaches & harbors,” cautions Emergency Info BC.
