Whistler RCMP arrested the driver of a car on Highway 99 while another man in the car fled away after officer discovered a loaded hand gun in the car.
On March 21, at approximately 9:30 pm, Whistler RCMP received a report of two vehicles in Squamish speeding and driving erratically northbound on Highway 99.
The first vehicle was described as a black Mercedes CLS55 with an Ontario license Plate. The second vehicle was described as Black BMW X5 with a BC Plate.
Police conducted a traffic stop just south of Spring Creek Drive in Whistler.
During the traffic stop, officers learned that the two men had a history of violent offences including fire arm offences.
Officer conducted a pat down of the passenger, and located a loaded handed gun in a Gucci man-purse. The man fled from police, jumped over the concrete barrier, and ran down the embankment.
RCMP set up a perimeter and called the K9 unit but were unable to locate the man, although police has confirmed he didn’t have a gun when he fled.
The male has been identified and the investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the driver was arrested and held in custody for various firearms offences and was later released on court documents.
