A car break-in in Dundarave escalated into a residential theft this week when suspects used a garage door opener found inside the vehicle to access a nearby home. After gaining entry to the garage, the suspects stole a bicycle.
“We urge you to avoid leaving items of value in your vehicles when they are unattended, whether locked or not. That is also applicable to keys or fobs that can be used to break into another vehicle or property,” said the West Vancouver Police Department in a statement.
In other incidents, West Vancouver police made arrests in two unrelated thefts. In one case, officers responded to reports of wire theft in progress in the Woodgreen area, arresting the suspect as they attempted to flee.
In a separate incident, police arrested a suspect after responding to a report of an aggressive and intoxicated taxi passenger. The individual was later found carrying stolen clothing from a nearby retail store and was taken into custody without resistance.
Other Recent Theft Reports:
- Marine Drive/Taylor Way Area: Ten reports of theft since October 4, including one case involving stolen goods exceeding $5,000. An e-bike locked outside retail shops was also reported stolen.
- Ambleside Area: Two incidents of theft from vehicles, including a laptop stolen from a car on a residential street and a wallet taken from a vehicle in a retail parking lot.
Police are reminding residents to secure their belongings and avoid leaving valuables in vehicles.
