Healthcare worker and healthcare equity advocate Sara Eftekhar has been nominated as the BC NDP candidate for West Vancouver-Capilano. A press release by BC NDP states that Sara Eftekhar was born in Iran but left with her family to find safety and freedom when she was eight. She found that on the North Shore and has lived there ever since.
As an active volunteer from a young age and as a nurse practitioner, she has seen the challenges faced by her community firsthand.
For years, she has worked to strengthen her community, playing a crucial role in establishing forensic nursing services at Lions Gate Hospital, advocating for free prescription contraception, and developing the North Shore’s first gender-based violence projects, notes the release.
“She is committed to delivering quality healthcare, improving safety for women and gender-diverse people, and ensuring every resident has a voice and strong advocate in the legislature,” says BC NDP.
Eftekhar said people in West Vancouver-Capilano need a government to invest in the healthcare system, but they will get risky and reckless cuts from Falcon and Rustad. “The BC NDP has taken action on healthcare, housing, and affordability in our community and across the province. We are in your corner.”
She is an active volunteer with AccessBC, advocating for free prescription contraception policy which recently came to effect, she has helped implement Canada’s first-ever youth policies, created public service announcements on the radio about the barriers of health care and represented Canada at the United Nations as the first-ever youth delegate with the Canadian delegation.
She also served as a Lead Advisor with Hollyburn Community Services on a research study focused on improving access for women experiencing gender-based violence.
She has also appeared on different media outlets such as CBC and CTV news. She has been honored with prestigious awards such as the YWCA Young Woman of Distinction Award, RBC’s, Top 25 Immigrants of Canada, and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. She holds a nursing degree from UBC, a Master of Arts in Peace, Conflict and Development as a Rotary Peace Fellow on a full scholarship and a Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from Athabasca University.
