A West Vancouver Police Officer was injured in a rockslide on Friday evening in the 3700 block of Cypress Bowl Rd. At approximately 5:30 pm, a large rockslide crossed the roadway striking both a West Vancouver Police vehicle as well as a civilian car.
The occupants of the civilian vehicle were uninjured and did not require medical treatment.
The police vehicle was struck by large boulders and was destroyed in the incident. The officer driving sustained serious lacerations to their head and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services. The officer is expected to make a full recovery. Cypress Bowl Road remained closed for several hours while debris was being cleared.
“This was a scary incident for those involved” said Sgt Mark McLean. “While our officer was unlucky to have been caught up in a rockslide, we are grateful and fortunate that their injuries weren’t more severe”.
The West Vancouver Police would like to thank West Vancouver Fire Rescue, North Vancouver RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services who assisted officers during this incident.
