Person with COVID-19 attended a conference at Vancouver Convention Centre

There is no further risk posed at the Vancouver Convention Centre and risk to participants is extremely low: VCH
March 12, 2020 11:20am

Vancouver Coastal Health has notified attendees of the Pacific Dental Conference 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Centre about a possible exposure to COVID-19 on March 6.

A person who has tested positive for COVID-19 attended the conference on March 6 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The person who attended the conference with COVID-19 is recovering at home and there is no ongoing risk to the community, nor is there any further risk posed at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Public Health Officials have completed a risk assessment and concluded that the risk to participants is extremely low.

As a precaution only, VCH is advising participants who attended the Pacific Dental Conference during those hours to monitor themselves for the following symptoms for up to 14 days and call HealthLink BC at 811 for advice if they develop them — fever, cough, headache and shortness of breath.

As long as participants of the conference remain healthy and do not develop symptoms, there is no need to self-isolate and they should continue with their usual daily activities, VCH says.
