An off-leash dog area is part of a temporary park space being planned at 1600 Eastern Avenue in Central Lonsdale.
Work on a permanent park is scheduled to begin in 2024, but CNV is building a a temporary community garden, off-leash dog area and gathering spaces until work begins on a more permanent park. The community gardens will be managed by the North Shore Community Garden Society. The new park is scheduled to be complete later this summer.
A fenced dog area, water feature and hammocks are among features proposed in the permanent park at 1600 Eastern Avenue. CNV says the new park will fulfill the mandate of City’s Park Master Plan, which calls for a park within a 5 minute walk from any park or public open space.
The final concept plan for the permanent park will include a fenced dog area with water fountain and play boulders, a circular covered canopy with hammocks and porch swings hanging from underneath, and small playful features such as an in ground trampoline, water feature, and climbing boulders.
In 2018, the City acquired a 0.2 hectare of land that became available due to a rezoning. “Essentially a ‘blank slate’, this space allows us to start from scratch and create a new park that is shaped by the voices of our community,” CNV says.
