In a reckless disregard for safety, an impaired driver in North Vancouver was caught hurtling down the road at an astonishing 174 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Police stopped the drunk driver of the Acura car on March 8 when officers were doing speed enforcement near the Lloyd Avenue exit.
“Their luck ran out faster than their speedometer this St Patrick’s Day. This driver thought they were in a race in a leprechaun’s rush to get to the pot of gold, hitting 174 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, WHILE impaired,” North Vancouver RCMP said in a tweet.
The driver was issued a three-day roadside supervision and ticketed for speeding. His car was also impounded for a week. “Now their car is impounded, and they’re on an enforced ‘sober-speeding’ break. Remember folks, a pot of gold or not, safety comes first,” North Van RCMP remarked.
DAR says
3 day suspension, a ticket and an impound for one week is a disgrace if that’s all.
No deterrent for him to never be able to do it again.
Will he have to kill someone the next time because there will be a next time.
This was probably not his first time either except for getting pulled over.

They should be impounded for 5 years!
