DNV is asking people to stay off trails on Mount Fromme due to safety concerns and the risk of tree failure. The District of North Vancouver has also closed parks, including pedestrian bridges at Murdo Frazer, William Griffin and Windridge Parks. A new rainfall warning is also in place, and heavy rain is expected to continue today. Hunter Park is also being closed due to tree failures.
In West Vancouver, the 21st Street onramp to Highway 1 is now open in both directions, but many streets have flooded, and drains are overflowing.
The heavy rainstorms have resulted in DNV parks and grass sports fields closures, Lynn Canyon and Ecology Centre, Baden Powell Trail to Quarry Rock, and the Pedestrian Bridge at Panorama Park.
A heavy rainfall warning is in effect for Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and the Sea to Sky Corridor. Additional rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected by this afternoon. Rainfall, heavy at times, will continue through this afternoon. Meanwhile, residents are strongly encouraged to avoid all trails, forested areas, steep slopes and waterways on the North Shore due to public safety concerns about falling branches or trees and swollen creeks.
DNV crews continue to work after an evening of heavy rain that led to flooding in the area, especially in Deep Cove. Deep Cove Road was closed at Caledonia as heavy rain fell across the North Shore.
