This also includes all related conduit and junction box work, disposal of surplus excavated material, and restoration of roadway crossings to DNV standards. The bid’s comprehensive scope also extends to enhancing driveways, concrete sidewalk panels, road curbs, wheelchair ramps, road markings, and the application of extruded thermoplastic crosswalks. The bid will close on March 12, 2024.
Area residents should also note that the westbound Main Street will be reduced to one lane 24 hours a day during construction between February through June 2024. Pedestrian and bike detours along the north side of Main Street will also be in place. Drivers are asked to use an alternative route.
New field house opens at Delbrook Park
A new field house is also open at Delbrook Park for community sports groups and park visitors. The 900-square-foot facility features four fully accessible washrooms to ensure everyone has easy access from the upper and lower levels of the park.
The energy-efficient facility uses electricity for heating and hot water, and lighting is controlled by occupancy and daylight sensors. The building also features a small concession space and storage for sports organizations.
“We’re excited about adding new amenities that make our parks more inclusive and accessible for everyone in our community to use,” says Adam Vasilevich, Section Manager, Parks Planning and Development.

Each washroom at the field house has an automatic door opener, ample space for mobility devices and accessible fixtures. The field house also includes a plaza area at field level for spectators and a lower-level area for watching tennis or small gatherings. It replaced an old field house that was in poor condition, not fully accessible, and no longer met the needs of the user groups.

This is sooo stupid! Completely unnecessary. Do you know how much lights costs to maintain and install?
The only time it gets busy is at 3pm when all the teens just cross the road and block traffic. Give it 10 mins and it’s dead again. Waste of money. Almost as bad as the lights they put in on 29th street. Mike Little is the worst mayor ever! He loves causing traffic jams! Vote him out
Dinah Fast says
Complete stupidity to put this in. Not only is it a complete waste of money, it will also encourage cars to speed through the intersection when there’s a green, especially coming down mountain highway. There is at most only a couple cars on either road during rush-hour, and the flow is completely manageable. If you put lights in it will drive cars to the quieter streets, impacting kids playing and will be a safety issue for all.

Yes, I have to concur with Mr. Wright and Ms. Fast, although well intentioned – (the installation of a regular traffic light Mt. Hwy at Frederick) – may in the end create more safety issues than it solves. Again as Ms. Fast suggests, the down-hill nature of Mt. Hwy will no doubt have some of the careless allowing their speed to climb wanting to catch the green or yellow. The current arrangement where drivers know they must stop no matter what tends to deflate this type of behavior.
Of concern also is the presence of Lynn Valley park and all of it’s users where by traffic miss-designs may only elevate the risk of serious injury.
If I may add, having driven the various streets of the North Shore for some fifty years now, anecdotally speaking, if ever a four-way stop style of traffic control worked, Mt. Hwy at Frederick is it. It would also seem to be traffic calming without further need for traffic calming.
As I see it, change that is not assuredly an improvement, is actually a backward step, save the money, leave well enough alone.
