Grouse Mountain has shared its progress on its planned new state-of-the-art gondola, slated to open during the 2024\25 winter season.
With the Mountaintop transforming into a winter wonderland and the building of the foundation for the Plateau Station complete, the focus has now turned to the Base Station. Located to the West of the Lower Terminal of the Super Skyride, guests have watched the Base Station transform over the last few months. Once all of the concrete work has been completed, the terminal for the station will be put in place in late spring, Grouse Mountain said.
Preparatory work has also continued to assemble the 14 towers and line work that will eventually link the two stations together over a 2,600-foot vertical rise. The new lift system includes 14 towers and 27 eight-person gondola cabins. With a one-way journey time of 5.5 minutes, the capacity is expected to be 1,000 people per hour, significantly improving the flow of people visiting Grouse Mountain and reducing wait times and lineups.
“We are excited to share the ongoing progress of Grouse Mountain’s state-of-the-art gondola,” Grouse Mountain said in an social media update. “We are thrilled with the strides made in the ongoing evolution of this transformative project, and we invite guests to stay tuned for more updates.”
The $35-million gondola construction project began in September 2022 and comprises of 14 towers and cables that stretch over a 2,600 ft vertical rise.
Grouse Mountain will be closed for scheduled maintenance on various dates throughout April 2024. These scheduled closures will allow Grouse Mountain to prepare for the upcoming summer season and work on several projects around the Mountain.
Please note that during these closures, visitors will not be able to access the Skyride and Mountaintop activities or facilities, and the Starbucks at the base will also be closed. However, guest services at the base will remain open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The closure dates are Monday, April 15, April 22, April 23, and April 25.
