The Mahon Skate Plaza is now open and ready for the community to enjoy.
The skate plaza will be a permanent feature in Mahon Park with opportunities for all skill levels, says City of North Vancouver. It features a simple, street-focused design links together well-spaced obstacles, and is located next to the basketball/pickle ball courts and is deep enough into the park to buffer skate noise for neighbouring residents.
In early 2022, Council approved a proposal for a skate area at Mahon Park for the community to use during construction of the new HJCRC.
In May, the city engaged with skateboard community members and residents on preliminary design concepts.
Construction took place in summer 2022. CNV is thanking the local company RDS for their support and generous contributions to the project, including the long granite ledge, granite benches, and barriers.
The Lonsdale Skate Park was closed on March 28 to allow for construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC). A new skate park will be delivered as part of the project, to be complete in 2025.
