West Vancouver residents fall victim to phone scam
Two West Vancouver residents fell victim to a sophisticated phone scam involving a suspect impersonating bank staff. West Vancouver police said victims received calls from someone claiming to be from their bank. The caller warned them of suspicious account activity and advised them to transfer funds to a “safe” account.
The victims agreed but later realized they were scammed. Both reported the incident to authorities, but the funds were already transferred to scamsters.
Police are urging the public to be vigilant, reminding citizens never to share personal information or transfer funds based on unsolicited phone calls. Residents are encouraged to report such suspicious phone calls to authorities. Officers are also investigating a pepper spray incident in West Vancouver after an argument among youth escalated into a physical fight.
