A man in his 30s is dead following a backcountry incident at Brandywine Bowl ski area just south of Whistler.
On Thursday, December 31, at approximately 4:45 pm, Whistler RCMP was notified of the backcountry incident in the area.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates a man was out backcountry skiing with a group when he fell into a tree-well.
“This is the third backcountry death in the Sea to Sky this week with an additional number of near-misses” said Sergeant Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.
“It appears the group had all the knowledge, skills, equipment, and receivers’ necessary. If these unfortunate events can happen to the most experienced people, this can happen to anyone,” she said.
Whistler RCMP is working along with BC Coroners Service to investigate the circumstances leading up to the man’s death.
If anyone has any information and has not spoken to police about this incident, Whistler RCMP can be contacted at 604-932-3044.
