The North Shore Black Bear Society has names Holly Reisner as their new Executive Director. In a press release, the society said she had volunteered and worked with the society for several years.
Born and raised in North Vancouver, bears have always been her neighbours. “Reisner is honoured to be able to help North Shore residents gain a better understanding of these beautiful animals, and to help us all learn how to live together peacefully,” the society said in a press release.
The Society has also thanked retiring Executive Director, Christine Miller, for her years of dedication to the bears of North and West Vancouver. “Christine’s leadership, hard work, compassion and community building have yielded amazing results for our wildlife. Under her stewardship, NSBBS has developed strong and trusting relationships with the residents, municipalities, and many other groups on the North Shore, which has led to a sharp decrease in the number of bears that are killed each year here,” the society said in a press release.
Kirstin Takashiba, who joined the Society last year, joined as Program Coordinator. She has since worked tirelessly presenting information about bears to school groups, daycares, Guides and Scouts, and many others, as well as conducting door to door neighbourhood outreach for residents all over the North Shore, and conducting bear safety workshops for groups that work outside.
Her background as a parks interpreter and a schoolteacher mean rich understanding of bears and how to share her knowledge about them, the society said in a press release.
Holly and Kirstin are grateful for Christine’s ongoing support and the support of the Board of Directors, the North Shore municipalities, and many other community groups. They are looking forward to supporting bears and North Shore residents in 2025 and beyond.
