Independent MLA candidate Karin Kirkpatrick has received endorsements from two longtime elected officials representing North Shore constituencies in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy and North Vancouver Councillor Don Bell.
In a video shared to social media, incumbent West Vancouver MLA Jordan Sturdy praised Kirkpatrick’s decision to run for re-election following the collapse of the BC United Party.
“With the dissolution of the BC United Party, Karin has stood up for democracy and the hundreds of thousands of British Columbians who feel left without a political home,” said Sturdy. “Karin is a centrist committed to bringing good governance to all British Columbians. She’s dedicated, compassionate, tenacious, and most importantly, effective.”
Sturdy, serving his fourth term as MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, was first elected as a BC Liberal in 2013. A portion of the West Vancouver-Sea to Sky riding has been redistributed into West Vancouver-Capilano for the 2024 provincial election.
“In the coming years, we need representation in Victoria that finds the middle ground, ensuring government represents the interest of all British Columbians,” continued Sturdy. “That’s why on October 19th, I hope you’ll cast your ballot for Karin Kirkpatrick.”
Don Bell, widely regarded as North Vancouver’s most experienced elected official, also endorsed Kirkpatrick.
“I am happy to endorse Karin Kirkpatrick as an Independent candidate for re-election as MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano,” said Bell. “She listens to her constituents and understands the issues. I appreciate the caring, experienced and moderate voice that Karin has brought and will continue to bring to the Legislature on behalf of her constituents.”
Bell served six terms as District Mayor, three terms as School Board trustee, one term as a District Councillor, two terms as MP for North Vancouver, and is currently serving in his fourth term as a Councillor in the City of North Vancouver.
Kirkpatrick was enthusiastic for the endorsements of Sturdy and Bell, hinting at more endorsements in the coming days. “I’m honoured to have the support of two deeply experienced elected officials in Jordan and Don,” said Kirkpatrick. “We’re seeing something incredibly exciting start to happen in West Vancouver-Capilano. We have more announcements to come in the week ahead, stay tuned.”
Yesterday, the Kirkpatrick campaign announced it had raised over $50,000 since the start of the writ period, by the end of the day that number had jumped to $55,000.
