The City of North Vancouver is informing the community about construction at the Shipyards.
The work involves excavating portions of Wallace Mews and Shipbuilders Square to install new subsurface electrical and water lines.
Using detours, the contractor will maintain access for residents, emergency vehicles and business operations, including deliveries.
Construction will occur from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, and residents can expect a sustained increase in noise levels because of the work. The Spirit Trail will detour cyclists to Esplanade during the project. To minimize disruption, the project will be carried out in two phases. During construction, the Shipyards Skate Plaza and all businesses will be open for regular operating hours, and pedestrians will have redirected pathways.
Cyclists are asked to use Esplanade as a detour for the Spirit Trail.
“This project will provide upgraded water and electrical systems for more sustainable events, festivals and activations. Upgraded electrical systems will provide power to food trucks and vendors, avoiding using generators to reduce ongoing noise and emissions,” CNV said.
The Province’s Community Economic Recovery Program has provided funding to allow infrastructure upgrades to enhance The Shipyards as a year-round destination and improve its role as a community hub, a gathering place and a place of connection and celebration.
The City’s contractor, ETRO Construction, is scheduled to begin work in the South Wallace Mews area on January 2, 2024. The work will take approximately three months to complete and is scheduled in two phases: Phase 1 began on January 2, 2024 and is expected to take four to five weeks. Phase 2 is expected to take four weeks to complete.
