Coming to Grouse Mountain: New Mountain Coaster and Mountain Bike Park

As part of a $9 million investment, Grouse Mountain has announced it will add Mountain Coaster and the North Shore’s only chairlift-accessed Mountain Bike Park. Both will be opening next spring.

The new attractions will open after the launch of the Resort’s new state-of-the-art gondola, set to open in winter 2024/25 in what will be an exciting 12 months for Grouse Mountain as it works to enhance significantly its four-season offerings and the overall guest experience.

The thrill begins with the Mountain Coaster launching in spring 2025, taking adventurers on an exhilarating ride of twists and turns, weaving through a series of old-growth trees and exciting features before being greeted by an awe-inspiring view of Vancouver.

“For guests who don’t ski or snowboard at Grouse Mountain, it is a side of the Resort and Vancouver that they’ve likely never seen before,” said Michael Cameron, President of Grouse Mountain Resort. “Located to the skier’s left of The Cut, the design of the Coaster has allowed us to maintain the integrity of the Mountain by incorporating the old-growth trees along the journey of the track.”

Construction of the alpine, gravity-fed coaster is progressing well, the resort said, with stage one completed in 2023, and track laying of the 1,434-metre permanent structure well underway. Guests will enjoy speeds of up to 45 kilometres an hour on the track, which includes a vertical descent of 919 metres, a 91-metre vertical drop, and an ascent of 515 metres, which returns them to the mountaintop without having to exit the cart.

For guests who would prefer to experience the Mountain on two wheels, the Mountain Bike Park will also open in spring 2025. Utilizing the Screaming Eagle chairlift, it will be the only lift-accessed bike park on the North Shore.

Building the bike trails is already well underway, with Grouse Mountain enlisting the expertise of Gravity Logic, who helped make the acclaimed Whistler Bike Park. Works will continue across the summer and fall seasons to complete as much as possible before the first snowfall arrives later this year.

The Bike Park will host a series of trails, including beginner green and blue flow trails, and advanced intermediate and expert trails, allowing riders to challenge themselves on more technical features. All trails will lead back to the Screaming Eagle chairlift to return riders to the mountaintop.

“The addition of the gondola has allowed us to explore a mountain of opportunities not previously available with our current Skyride,” said Cameron. “It’s an exciting time for Grouse and we’re so happy to be sharing these new amenities with our community.”

Since the world’s first double chairlift was built at the Resort in 1949, Grouse Mountain has had a rich history of investing in modern, recreational technology. The new gondola, Mountain Coaster, and Mountain Bike Park projects support the continued investment in the world-class experience Grouse Mountain offers and ensures Vancouver’s number one natural attraction is accessible for generations to come.
