Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the South Coast, warning of heavy rain and strong winds from Sunday to Monday afternoon.
The alert is in effect for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley – West including Abbotsford, Howe Sound, and the Sunshine Coast from Gibsons to Earls Cove.
The approaching storm system is expected to bring significant rainfall starting Sunday afternoon, intensifying through the evening before tapering off by Monday afternoon. Rainfall totals of 30 to 40 mm are anticipated by Monday morning, with some areas potentially seeing higher amounts.
Strong southeasterly winds are forecast to accompany the rainfall on Sunday night, increasing the risk of broken tree branches and potential power outages. Environment Canada has warned of reduced visibility due to heavy rain and urged residents to remain vigilant for possible washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts. Authorities ask residents to take appropriate precautions and stay updated on weather developments as the storm approaches.
A high streamflow warning is also in effect for South Coast.
