The 2nd annual North Shore Community Tennis Tournament, organised by the North Shore Tennis Society, took place over the weekend of 27 and 28 July at the Ray Perrault Park Tennis Courts at Grand Boulevard, with over 150 local tennis players, ranging from 14 years to over 80 years, competing in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles competitions at various ability levels.
Paddy McCann, the Tournament Director, expressed the society’s gratitude to the City of North Vancouver for the permit that allowed all four courts to be used on both weekend days. McCann also thanked the volunteers for ensuring the smooth running of the tournament. This decision to double the tournament’s size was due to last year’s tournament’s success and the high demand.
Kristen Ames, the Communications Director of the Tennis Society, was delighted with the support from local businesses who sponsored the tournament by providing prizes for the winners and items for the raffle.
Duncan Brown, the President of the Tennis Society, emphasized the massive turnout and engagement by local tennis players and the support of local businesses, highlighting the popularity of grassroots tennis in the North Shore community. He also underscored the Society’s commitment to advocating for proper public tennis facilities in the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, and District of West Vancouver.
The Tennis Society highlighted the growing popularity of tennis in the North Shore, with an estimated 22,000 active tennis players. They also thanked the businesses that sponsored the tournament, providing prizes for winners, raffle prizes, and essential food and beverage support. Tennis is a growing sport, and its increasing popularity has put pressure on the availability of public tennis courts across the North Shore. The North Vancouver Tennis Centre operates at capacity and is much-loved by the community. The North Shore Tennis Society, a non-profit community organization, represents the large and rapidly growing tennis community in North Vancouver and West Vancouver.
The Tennis Society thanks the following businesses which sponsored the tournament, providing prizes for winners, raffle prizes and vital food & beverage sustenance: Arc’teryx, Brown’s Social House, Burgoo, Cactus Club Café, CJ Tennis, Deep Cove Kayak, Little Pink Door Boutique, Nook, North Shore Sports Medicine, Park Royal, Rackets and Runners, Starbucks, Stong’s Market, Swiss Sports House, Thierry, West Vancouver Tennis Club, White Spot and Zazou Salon & Academy.
